CONNECTINGGREEN HYDROGENEUROPE2024 EuropeGreen HydrogenProject Updateswww.europe.gh2events.comBrought To You by:LeaderAssociatesIntroduction:Hydrogen,as an indispensable part of achieving carbon neutrality,naturally sees Europe notlagging in its development.According to the Hydrogen Strategy released by the European Union in2020,the goal is to achieve 10 million tonnes of domestic renewable hydrogen production and 10million tonnes of renewable hydrogen imports by 2030,in addition to expanding the constructionof hydrogen infrastructure.Under EU state aid rules,the Commission recently approved'IPCEI Hy2Infra,the third ImportantProject of Common European Interest,with up to 6.9 billion of funding from Member States tosupport hydrogen infrastructure and boost renewable hydrogen supply,aligning with theEuropean Green Deal and the REPowerEU Plan.In terms of investment and financing,the European Commission has seen 15 EU countriesincorporate measures related to hydrogen into their recovery and resilience plans,with a totalinvestment of at least 9.3 billion euros.The European Hydrogen Bank's 800 million pilot auctionconcluded earlier this year also attracted 132 bids from projects in 17 European countries.Furthermore,between December 2022 and December 2023,Europe saw an addition of 215hydrogen projects,indicating that the development of hydrogen energy in Europe has entered thefast lane.Analysis of European Hydrogen Energy Projects:As of the end of December 2023,there are a total of 1085 low-carbon hydrogen projects in Europe,spread across 31 countries.Germany leads with the highest number of projects,totaling 198.This isfollowed by Spain,France,the United Kingdom,and the Netherlands,with 143,126,Ill,and 89 projects,respectively.It is evident that hydrogen projects in Europe are rather concentrated,with the topfive countries accounting for 61%of the total number.Additionally,there are 13 countries with fewerthan ten projects each.Figure 1Number of Hydrogen Projects in European Countries25020015010050Source:IEA Leader Associates01www.europe.gh2events.com
